- This material is call Tack. It is kind of like the glue to bonds the existing asphalt to the new asphalt.

- Asphalt is paved at around 300 degrees and Compacted. However, different types of Asphalts have individual specs.

- Aside from having the skills and equipment to complete the job, its important you select a contractor you can trust will do the job the right way and complete the job the way it was quoted. Always ask for references and previous projects they have completed. Always use a local company that you can call and have a 1-year warranty on projects.

- When we look at your project, we can estimate the project duration. Most standard driveways can be completed in 2 days.

- This depends on the condition of your existing driveway, the only way to know for sure is to have professional come out and look. If the Existing Asphalt is Cracked and unstable there could be a weak base or just aged asphalt. Existing Cracks will reflect through the new asphalt over time. For these situations we would recommend removing and regrading the existing base and then pave.
- If you have a large project, milling is another option to profile & remove asphalt.

- A standard asphalt driveway has 6” base. Usually made of lime rock or crushed concrete. The asphalt should be 1.5” compacted thickness.
- Parking Lots and Small Roads require 12” of stabilized subbase with an LBR of 40, or 6” of additional base material. They are usually paved with hot mix asphalt at 1.5” to 2” compacted thickness.

- Asphalt Compacts 1/4” per 1” of Asphalt Paved before Compaction.Example: If you want 2” of compacted asphalt we will lay 2.5” of asphalt and then Compact with Steel Drum Roller, which would leave 2” of compacted asphalt.

- The foundation is the most critical part of the paving project, much like build a house you must start with a good foundation. The base material used is the foundation of your driveway, if you don’t start with a good foundation you will compromise the integrity of the asphalt and it will fail.

- We do not recommend Paving on Existing Base because we are not sure if the base was installed to the proper specifications.

- If the grass is not completely removed it will grow through the asphalt once paved.

- We recommend driving on your driveway the next day. Roads can be opened up as soon as the asphalt cools usually 3 to 4 hours. Asphalt will mark up if someone turns tires of a car or truck in one spot until the asphalt cures. It takes longer to cure in the summer months.

- There are many factors that contribute to the life of an asphalt driveway. But in general, if the asphalt is paved on a good base and well maintained you should get 10-15 years out of your asphalt driveway before needing to replace it.
